The Judgment Chamber, or just Judgment, is a space in the Afterlife where the souls of deceased Medians are judged to receive their sentence.

Description[]

Judgment takes the form of a white void of unclear size, where souls "wake up" after dying. They appear to be floating, as there is no visible ground to stand on. There, they meet with Death who reads their sentence from the Book of Records, and (if needed) weighs their good and bad deeds using the Scales of Judgment. From there, the soul is then led to the River of Lost Souls, where Death will ferry them to their designated afterlife.

The Judgment Chamber is something that is "activated" at Death's leisure, meaning that some time can pass between the moment a soul is fetched and the moment they're judged[1]; Rhea woke up in Judgment the morning after having been buried. This could allow Death to put souls on hold as to individually talk to them in turn. Since the chamber can be activated from Death's castle in Purgatory, it can be assumed this is where Judgment is physically located.

When Rhea drank the yellow Rainbow Reverie potion, she ended up in a black void and thought she'd died; but she noted this didn't look like Judgment, notably because Death wasn't here.

Trivia[]

  • Along with the Fuzen'ro Graveyard, the Judgment Chamber is the first location ever seen in Slightly Damned, on the very first page.[2]
  • It is unknown why Death gave their replacement the power to open Judgment and send souls to the afterlife, but not reincarnate them.
