Hell's Army is an unnamed military force that serves Father Syndel and protects Hell and its people, while also taking action against Heaven through various means and intents.

Creation[]

The exact known creation is unknown, though it can be assumed it was created long since the creation of the demons during the dawn of Medius. Its existence would be necessary, especially when the Great War would occur.

Membership[]

To this day, little has actually been revealed about Hell's army within the comic. Since its creation it most likely consisted mostly of Demons. However, a couple Angels and two of the Twelve Guardians have been shown collaborating with Hell's army for unknown or otherwise unexplained reasons. One Angel in particular is currently leading the army, under the claim that he is Father Syndel.

The army's members typically operate in squads of three. There seems to be a hierarchy system, as Iratu is defined as a "general" and Azurai and Tsavo are called "sir" by other Demons; however, the exact workings of it, or what positions do Azurai and Tsavo hold, are unknown. Verammi, a Seraph-ranked Angel, defers to Iratu as a general.

Members of Hell's Army approved for Ascension receive an Ascension pass that guarantees their passage; what it does and what is written on it are unknown. As Sakido, a former member of Hell's Army, doesn't know what it is, it can be assumed that Ascension passes are a relatively recent invention.

History[]

Past[]

At an unknown point of history, Father Syndel aided a military general in the conquest of his own kingdom, feeling jealous of Medians' love and worship of Mother Gaia. When victims of the battles during the evil general’s invasion of a second kingdom claimed that they saw demons, Gaia sprung into action and sent her angels to fight; this became known as the Great War, where Hell's army fought against the army of Heaven on Medius. While it is ultimately believed by Medians that the forces of good had won and the war ended, the army of Hell was far from vanquished and the war was far from over.

300 years ago, while Median involvement had ended, Hell's forces would go through Medius as to fight in Heaven, the same way Heaven's forces would come fight into Hell. Years before Kieri was born, Demons committed a massacre in Heaven, killing many Angels such as Arla Suizahn's family and the Denevol Clan, wiping out the latter.[1]

15 years ago, Death tried to put an end to the Great War by barring Demons and Angels from entering each other's realms. Around that time, "Syndel" took over as leader of the Demon army, and gave them the idea of invading Medius and turning it into a paradise for Demonkind at Heaven's expense.[2][3]

That shift in leadership brought several changes to the army's operation. Prior to it, Demons didn't work in teams, nor did they make elaborate plans or collaborate with Angels.[4] However, that difference might be what would lead them to succeed; as such, Iratu's generation were the first of Hell's soldiers to work in this new way, despite the reticence of war veterans who had little faith in "Syndel".

Current Events[]

Led by "Syndel", Hell's army is currently sending Demons onto Medius through the Ascension ritual as to capture living Angels, in order to keep performing said ritual. In doing so, they've been known to attack towns and kill Medians. They also entrusted Moonshade's help to eliminate Guardians that might fight back their efforts, such as Melli and Meeros. Despite the complexity of this plan, it has been working so far, without any formal retaliation from Heaven or Mother Gaia.[3]

During the Flower Festival, Demons led the assault on St Curtis, where many Angels were gathered, and set out to capture as many as possible. While their efforts were somewhat thwarted by Team Rhea's intervention, who managed to save some of the Angels, the rest are still currently headed towards the ritual site on Mt. Sentinel. However, as several of their members have either defected the army or been defeated in battle, their already-meager numbers have lowered significantly after the invasion.
