The Grand Library is a library in Heaven.[1] It is said to collect all of Heaven's knowledge.
Description[]
The building itself resembles a Greek temple, resting atop a short flight of stairs, with decorated columns and a triangular frontispiece featuring a carving of Mother Gaia holding the Sun, Star and Moon pendants; right beneath is engraved Angelic text, likely the library's name. The walls are made of white bricks, with triangular openings as windows, that resemble Mother Gaia's flower-like emblem. There is a tower-like structure appended to the island, which leads to the front doors. The front doors are large and tall, decorated with flower-like patterns, and propped under an engraved archway. There is a second building behind the library, appearing to be a roofed, open space with seats. Due to the Great War, the building was damaged and rebuilt several times, including some structures that have disappeared or been built over time; in Kieri's youth, it still bore cracks and chipped walls.
The inside is composed of at least three floors, linked by floating staircases. Books are stored in large large triangular bookshelves along the walls, separated by engraved pillars with hovering lights on top. There are two rows of tables, seats and chairs, allowing people to sit and read. In the center is a statue of Mother Gaia, and on the wall of the third floor are four banners featuring the Magic element symbols. There are other decorations such as paintings, carpets and a bust. Some parts have remained in disrepair since the war, and still bear claw marks from Demons; some books appear chewed on as well.
History[]
The library holds many books in both Lingo and Angelic, including on Median culture. Medians are allowed to visit; most of the library's information comes from Median souls sharing their knowledge, as well as donated or copied books from their possessions.[2] Kieri notes the library's collection could use some improvement, as there are many more fictions and comics than science books.
From a young age, Kieri would often come there to study Lingo and learn about Medius; a few years into her training, she started to visit whenever she had a chance, notably to read Median fictions. Kazai would also be there, more to wonder why she bothered studying Lingo rather than doing any reading himself. One such time was after Kieri received physical abuse from her mother.[1]
